PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS

American Academy in Rome -- One of the leading overseas centers for independent study and advanced research in the arts and humanities. Offers the Rome Prize fellowship program.

American Classical League (ACL) -- This organization fosters the study of classical languages in the U.S. and Canada. Offers many resources for teachers, a phenomenal job placement site for Latin teachers, an annual meeting in the summer, promotion, and much more. The organization holds an annual meeting in June. American Philological Association (APA) -- A society for the study of ancient Greek and Roman languages, literatures, and civilizations. Excellent job placement for post-secondary teachers. Holds an annual meeting in January. See the upcoming conferences post on the main page for details.

National Committee for Latin and Greek -- A good place to find promotional materials for your Latin or Greek program. Includes letters to prevent the closure of a program, a defense against the possible ignorance of guidance counselors, and more. The National Latin Teacher Recruitment Week is a joint venture of the American Classical League, CAMWS, and the APA to insure "...that our Latin, Greek, and Classics pre-college classrooms have the teachers they need. The Week is usually scheduled the first full week in March.

National Junior Classical League (NJCL) -- An organization for high-school Latin students, which has an annual summer meeting and offers the National Latin Honor Society.

Society for the Promotion of Roman Studies -- An organization in the U.K. for those interested in the study of Rome and the Roman Empire. The Society produces the Journal of Roman Studies.

Classical Association of the Middle West and South (CAMWS) -- Our regional classics organization covering 31 midwestern, western, and southern states, plus 3 Canadian provinces. Holds an annual conference in the spring. Also holds the Southern Section in years where the annual meeting is not in the South. See the upcoming conferences post on the main page for details.

South Carolina Foreign Language Teachers Association (SCFLTA) -- The state organization for teachers and professors of all languages. See the upcoming conferences post on the main page for details.
